Working with Epilepsy

The Epilepsy Society in the UK says this on their website:

“If your seizures tend to happen when you are very relaxed, or during sleep, then deeply relaxing activities such as meditation and hypnotherapy may increase your risk of having seizures.”

To protect both yourself and your client, it is not advisable to use hypnosis with clients who have epilepsy, as seizures could happen during a session or also when a client is listening to their recording.

However, if a client has been free from epilepsy for many years and is now symptom free and stable, providing an hypnotherapy could be possible, but they would first need to get confirmation from their healthcare professional that it is safe to proceed.
